Celebrating Our Award Wins at the Inspire Future Generations Awards 2024!

We are absolutely thrilled to share some fantastic news—A Place in Childhood (APiC) has been recognised at the Thornton Education Trust (TET) Inspire Future Generations Awards 2024 with two prestigious awards!

These awards are a testament to six years of dedicated effort in trialling and refining our methodology for engaging young people in neighbourhood planning. The ‘How To’ Guide, which sits at the heart of this recognition, was developed through deep collaboration—with schools, young people, local authorities, and many other partners. We consider this a shared award with everyone who contributed, as your insights and support were essential to making this possible!

A Huge Year for APiC

Beyond this incredible recognition, 2024 has been a year of significant impact for us. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve achieved:

📌 Worked with 37 schools across 8 different Local Authority areas—averaging one school per week throughout the academic year!
📌 Ran 15 online workshops with young people outside of school, alongside numerous sessions with adults to reflect on child and young person led outputs, and determine next steps.
📌 Co-created a community festival in Falkirk, celebrating local young people’s ideas and ambitions.
📌 Completed the core co-design workshops for an Art Park, a first-of-its-kind initiative that came from our work cocreating a neighbourhood plan with children and teenagers in Craigmillar, Edinburgh.  We also completed co-design work for six neighbourhood projects in Glasgow, and one in Edinburgh. More to come on this soon!
📌 Released our ‘How To’ Guide and launched training packages to support the rollout of child-centred placemaking.
📌 Co-created four complete Neighbourhood Plans, amplifying children and young people’s voices in their communities.
📌 Created a video and podcast directly with children and young people, capturing their experiences and insights.

Looking Ahead

These awards are not just a celebration of past achievements but also motivation for the future. We remain committed to expanding our impact, continuing to refine our methodologies, and ensuring that children and young people are at the heart of placemaking decisions.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—we truly couldn’t have done it without you! Stay tuned for more exciting developments as we push forward into 2025.
